Mataala Ridge Trail

This very steep climb rises above Olosega in American Samoa. Expect 36 to 60 minutes. The hardest 500 metres average 35.9% and start 2.2 km in, so the worst of it lands when you are already committed. South-facing, so it bakes in summer: go early. At 13.0 TEP it is harder than 86% of the climbs in the catalogue. The path is graded easy hiking: the effort is in your lungs, not your footing.
